Jōyo-ji Temple

Jōyo-ji Temple is a Buddhist temple that is said to have been built back during the Kamakura Period (1192-1333). It is known as the birthplace of Chiba Prefecture’s modern education system, and was once an important location for educating new teachers.
The predecessor to Chiba University’s Faculty of Education, as well as its affiliated school (present-day Nagareyama Elementary School) was located here, making it the oldest school to be established in present-day Chiba.
