Koumyouin Temple

A Buddhist temple, built back during the Edo Period (1603-1868). It is home to the grave of Akimoto Sanzaemon the Fifth (pen-name Sōju), an inventor of Shiro Mirin and a close friend of the famous haiku poet Kobayashi Issa.
The tarajo holly plant that grows here, is a City Designated Natural Monument. The leaves of this tree make marks when you scratch them, and are considered the origin of postcards. If you scratch your wish or prayer on one of the leaves of this tree, it may come true!
